What a Little Bit of Paint Can Do
June 4th 2008 01:47
In 1883, Benjamin Moore and his brother took a risk and invested $2,000 (a lot of money at that time) to open a paint manufacturing business in Brooklyn, New York. They called the business Moore Brothers and started with one product.
Now a Berkshire Hathaway company, Benjamin Moore & Co. sells its wide array of paints, stains, and finishes through 4,000 plus independent retailers in North America. They are celebrating their 125th year in business this year. They are honouring this corporate achievement with an exhibit that highlights and chronicles colour through the decades.
“Color Spanning Three Centuries” is available for public viewing throughout 2008 at various design centers in the United States where the company has showroom facilities:
* Denver Design Center, April 18 through May 4
* The Chicago Merchandise Mart, May 5 through 31
* The New York Design Center, June
* San Francisco Design Center, September.
This exhibit traces the history of color in interior design utilizing Benjamin Moore’s rich archives to present this show.
Benjamin Moore, the founder who invested his money, with his brother Robert, in a business he believed in, would certainly be proud to see the rich history of what he started on display.
With a colourful past and a bright future ahead of them, Benjamin Moore continues the tradition that began in Brooklyn way back when.
